Facebook Users Can Book Hotel Rooms, Earn Commission With SocialBooker ‘Plus-U’

For hotels, using Facebook as a marketing tool is nothing new, but they can now use Facebook users as marketing tools following Appnostic’s addition of the “Plus-U” feature to itsSocialBooker hotel distribution application.

SocialBooker provides more than 50 hotels worldwide with integrated booking solutions for their Facebook pages, including the ability to create communities of loyal repeat guests.

Those are exactly the type of guests Plus-U is geared toward: Facebook users who heavily influence travel-planning decisions can become SocialBooker travel consultants, receiving commissions of 8 percent to 12 percent when rooms are booked via their Facebook pages, from a network of more than 25,000 hotels around the world. Those influencers, or travel consultants, can also share, plan, and book trips as groups, and take advantage of exclusive offers for friends and families.

Appnostic Founder and Chief Executive Officer Brian Dass said:

We are building the plumbing to pipe rates and inventory to travel enthusiasts who help their friends, colleagues, and clients plan trips. Through Facebook, the SocialBooker Plus-U application allows hotels to work with consumers and the content they share as direct booking channels, much like they work with online travel agencies today.

With new access to real-time application-programming interface data now provided by top photo-sharing programs like Instagram, we are on the brink of tying in the distribution of rates and availability with the hotel and destination images guests share online.

Facebook boosts number of shares on offer by 25%

Facebook says it will sell 25% more shares than first planned in its flotation in response to strong demand.

The move comes one day after the social networking giant said it would raise the price of the shares by 21% to between $34-$38 a share.

It also comes despite doubts about the profitability of the site, which is largely used for social updates.

Car giant General Motors added to those doubts by saying on Tuesday it would no longer pay to advertise on the site.

However, rival Ford said it would continue its social media strategy. A spokesman said: “You just can’t buy your way into Facebook. You need to have a credible presence and be doing innovative things.”

Facebook will add about 84 million shares to its initial public share offering (IPO) and will now sell about 421 million shares, up from 337 million, raising $18bn (£11.3bn).

This is still only a small percentage of the entire company, and implies Facebook’s full market value is around $100bn, similar to that of internet shopping giant Amazon.

The company makes only around $5 a year per member and has identified mobile devices, phones and tablet computers, as a key area for revenue growth.

But Patrick Moorhead, president of Moor Insights and Strategy, said building that revenue would not be straightforward.

“Mobility is Facebook’s biggest challenge in that they don’t monetise it currently, but it is where the largest growth is.”

He pointed to sites such as Groupon, which offers discounts on goods and services to subscribers, as one potentially profitable sector: “I expect them to target the local deals sector first then tie it in with check-ins.

“I expect them to either buy Groupon and Foursquare, or very quickly build-out these capabilities.”

Initial rise?

The extra allotment of shares and the raising of the target price were both moves that were anticipated by analysts.

Mr Moorhead said that despite the increased share allotment and higher price range, he expected the price of shares to rise further initially: “For IPOs like this, they always rise on the first day, dip slightly, then the market readjusts over the next few months.”

The actual price of the shares is expected to be revealed on Thursday with open market trading pencilled in to begin on Friday.

If all the shares are sold at the new higher price, the IPO would be the third-largest initial share sale in US history, after the financial giant Visa and General Motors.

The company could add even more shares to the sale as there are more than 60 million additional shares that could be sold to cover excess demand.

The eight-year-old social network has 900 million users worldwide and made a profit of $1bn last year.

The new shareholders will not have much say in how the business is run.

The shares on offer are “A” shares, which carry one vote per share, as is normal.

But the current owners’ shares are “B” shares, which carry 10 votes each.

They will control more than 96% of the votes after the public listing, with founder Mark Zuckerberg holding just under 56% of the voting power of the company.

Facebook loses adverts from General Motors

US car giant General Motors (GM) has said it will stop advertising on Facebook, days ahead of the social networking site’s share flotation.

GM does not believe paid-for advertising on Facebook influences many people’s choice of car.

Analysts said it raised questions about Facebook’s ability to lift profits.

Despite this, Facebook’s first issue of shares is proving so popular that on Tuesday it increased the price range for the stock.

It raised the price range from $28-$35 a share to $34-$38, potentially putting the firm’s total value above $100bn (£62.2bn).

The Reuters news agency also reported that demand was so high that the company would release up to 25% more shares, allowing it to raise about $16bn.

Trading in the shares is expected to begin on Friday.

The eight-year-old social network has 900 million users worldwide and made a profit of $1bn last year.

Risk

GM, the third-largest advertiser in the US, is the highest-profile company to pronounce on the worth of advertising on social networking sites compared with conventional media.

While it is dropping paid-for advertising, it will continue with its own Facebook page.

“In terms of Facebook specifically, while we currently do not plan to continue with advertising, we remain committed to an aggressive content strategy through all of our products and brands, as it continues to be a very effective tool for engaging with our customers,” GM said in a statement.

However, rival Ford will continue its social media strategy. A spokesman said: “You just can’t buy your way into Facebook. You need to have a credible presence and be doing innovative things.”

Brian Wieser, internet and media analyst at Pivotal Research Group, said GM’s move intensified questions about site’s business plan.

“This does highlight what we are arguing is the riskiness of the overall Facebook business model,” he said.

Facebook launches Skype video chat

‘LAUNCHING SEASON 2011’:The partnership with Skype is being seen as a response to Google’s new Google+ social network site, which features a videoconferencing function

Facebook will add Skype video chat to its pages, aiming to spice up the appeal of the world’s No. one Web social networking service while fending off increased competition from Google.
The agreement, announced by Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg at the company’s Palo Alto, New york, headquarters on Wednesday, deepens the company’s cooperation with Microsoft Corp, which is in the system of buying Skype.
Microsoft owns one.6 percent of Facebook and announced its US$8.5 billion purchase of Skype in May.
Zuckerberg said Facebook has hit a record 750 million users. The new service, rolling out from Wednesday, could be a immense boost for Skype, which currently has about 145 million regular users.
Facebook’s Skype service, initially limited to one-to-one video chat, will be free. Financial details of the deal, if any, were not disclosed.
Skype chief executive Tony Bates said Wednesday’s deal with Facebook was only the beginning of a potentially profitable partnership.
“For us, this makes plenty of business sense,” Bates said at the Palo Alto event. “We get immense reach. In the future, we’re speaking about potentially also having Skype paid products obtainable within the Web format they saw here today.”
In a phone interview later on Wednesday, Neil Stevens, the general manager of Skype’s consumer business, said the company was planning on introducing a for-pay service that would permit users on Facebook to place calls to landline and mobile rings.
Stevens said he could not provide a timeframe for when such a service might be obtainable, and said details about whether the service would work with Facebook’s so-called Credits money had yet to be worked out.
Facebook, which also unveiled a group messaging function, adding to its existing one-to-one text chat, is returning fire from Google, which last week turned up the competitive heat by introducing a social networking service dubbed Google+.
While plenty of of Google+’s social networking features are similar to those already obtainable on Facebook, Google is generating interest with its videoconferencing function, which allows up to ten people on the service to participate in a video call.
Zuckerberg hinted that video chat for multiple people could finally be obtainable on Facebook, but he said that most video chats today occur between people.
“We think this is awesome because we’re using the best expertise that’s out there for doing video chat with the best social infrastructure that’s out there to generate some icy new scenarios,” Zuckerberg said.
Zuckerberg said Wednesday’s announcements were the first of several to come in what he described as “launching season 2011.”

Perfect Golf Swing Tips

Perfect Golf Swing Tips

“Discover The 7 Steps To A Perfect Golf Swing”

There are 7 steps to a perfect golf swing. Find out how the first step, your grip, can have a phenomenal effect on your game, from fairway blasting drives to the most subtle chip shots. This tutorial will give you the golf grip secrets your buddies will want to know! Whether you want to tell them is for you, and your conscience, to decide!

Why Is the Grip So Important?

If you want to have a powerful, accurate golf swing it pays to understand how to maximize the effectiveness of your grip.

The grip is often known as the steering wheel of the golf swing, in the sense that a good grasp of the golf club will get your shots to their destination. Making sure your hands are appropriately placed to guide your swing is the first obstacle to overcome, if you want a perfect golf swing.

Remember, as you read this, that a golfer’s grip is a powerfully individual component of their golf swing. Every golfer’s ideal grip is as different as their choice of clubs or golf shirt. Now, this does mean you’re going to have to hit some balls to perfect your own individual approach, but there are some key secrets to a good grip, for every golfer.

Left Hand

  • 1. You need to place the golf club in your left hand, so that the club crosses your left palm, from the forefinger’s base to the pad above your pinky finger.
  • 2. Make sure you hold the handle steady with the fingers of your left hand, while wrapping the palm around the top of the club’s grip.

golf swinggolf tips

  • The club goes across the left palm (image above on left)
  • Wrap your palm around the top of the grip in the fingers (image above on right)

Did you know?

The grip has more effect on the flight of the ball than anything else in golf. It’s the foundation that the rest of the swing is built on and the reason why it’s the first port of call in any search for the perfect golf swing.

If you’re having problems with the flight pattern of your shots, the chances are you need to start by looking at the way you hold your club. In many cases, addressing issues with the grip can have a noticeable quick win impact.

At its core, you need to make sure you grip the golf club in your fingers. The further into the palm you grip, the slower your golf swing will be. Not only will you get a faster grip from holding the club in your fingers, you’ll also close the clubface quicker.

Correcting Common Golf Swing Errors:

Slicing the ball? You’ll need to move the club further into the fingers

Hooking the ball? You’ll need to move your left hand further up into the palm area.

Right Hand

Hopefully, you now have a good idea of how you need to be gripping the club with your left hand. It’s now time to address the right hand.

  • 3.      Place your right hand on the side of your right leg. Bring it slowly towards the base of the golf club.
  • 4.      Your right hand will need to be placed more in the fingers than the palm. Fold the right hand around the fingers of your left hand.
  • 5.      Important- Keep both palms facing each other at all times. There is no flexibility on this, it must be done. It’s not difficult, thankfully.

  • Move your Right Hand Towards the bottom of your Left Hand (image above on left)
  • Fold your Right Hand around the Fingers of your Left Hand (image above in center)
  • Make sure that both palms face each other (image above on right)

Congratulations, you now have covered the essentials of gripping your golf club! But before you book that ultimate golfing vacation, you may want to work on it a little. Experiment to make sure the grip is tuned to your golfing needs and playing style. Think of this as the building blocks of a killer grip, and the swing that will follow.

With the basics covered, the next thing to cover will be the grip variations available. Think of these variations as a way of pinpointing your individual style, to find the golf swing that’s best for you.

A Note On Golf Club Grips

Before we discuss the important topic of grip variations, it’s worth taking a moment to cover the grip you have fitted on your golf clubs.

Most clubs will have a “men’s” grip or a “ladies’” grip. If you have smaller hands the clubs should have a “ladies’” grip fitted, even if you have “men’s” clubs.

Larger hands should have golf clubs with “men’s” grips fitted. To complicate matters further, you can have “jumbo” grips for larger hands or those who suffer arthritis. Very small hands can benefit from “junior” grips.

Why worry about the grips fitted to your golf clubs? Well, the size of the grip, in relation to your hand size, affects the flight and travel of the ball.

Larger grips will take to make players fade the ball, while smaller grips will tend to make players draw the ball.

Grip Variations

While there’s more than one way to grip a golf club, there’s no need to get overwhelmed by the choices available. Simple experimentation will allow you to eliminate those that don’t suit your style, pretty quickly. Here are some tips to get you set with the right grip variation for you.

interlocking grip

Interlocking Grip

As a guide, the interlocking grip will tend to suit those who have smaller hands and fingers. Its key benefit is that it helps to wrap your fingers and palm around the grip handle.

overlapping grip

Overlapping Grip

For those with larger hands, the overlapping grip is the most likely grip to work for you.

Of course these are the correct ways to hold your club, but that’s not all you can do to help shape your own personal grip style. You can apply these grips to the club in three different ways.

The above-mentioned grips are the proper way to hold a club- however there are three different ways you can apply them to the golf club.

weak gripneutral gripstrong grip

  • The Weak Position has no knuckles of the left hand showing (left image)
  • The Neutral Position has one knuckle of the left hand showing (center image)
  • The Strong Position Has 2/3 knuckles of the left hand showing (right image)

If you experiment with the different positions, you can adjust the best position for you. If your swing curves to the right, move towards strong position. If the ball curves to the left, move towards weak position.

If this correction allows you to hit the golf ball without curve, stop- you have the right position. Don’t experiment any further!

Grip Pressure

Now that you can picture the right grip, it’s time to think about the last component of the perfect golf grip; the pressure you apply to the club. You may or may not be surprised to learn that it’ll have a significant impact on your golf swing. In any case, it’s vital to get it right.

Grip the club tightly and your arm will swing slower, taking longer for the clubface to release in the downswing. If you hook the golf ball, this is actually beneficial.

So, if you normally slice the golf ball, you need to reverse this and apply a light touch to the ball. Gripping the club lightly will cause the swing to be faster and release quicker for the downswing.

You’ll know that you have the correct pressure when you can hit the ball without it curving. Once you find that pressure, keep practicing to get the pressure consistent.

This Is Stage One Of The Perfect Golf Swing

Hopefully you can now imagine the improvements to your swing and you’re keen to put this tutorial into practice. However, you will remember that this is just stage one of the seven secrets of a perfect golf swing.

If you can master each of the elements, you’ll have a golf swing that’ll be the envy of your golfing buddies, maybe even the other members of your club!
